Testing the SOTA kit

Having the First of October 2014 confimed by the SOTA Management Team – Son Reuben and I decided to do a test run of the SOTA kit and see whether it would work.

Reuben and I went up to Mt Wellington to big bend and walked into the Mt Arthur scout hut and up to Mt Arthur. I made some good contacts with other SOTA operators and increased the chaser points! It was a perfect day and no wind.

Not a cloud in the sky, a perfect day for a SOTA test.

The kit consisted of:

  • FT817
  • 9M Squid Pole
  • VK7JJ HF Vertical Design
  • Additional NiMH battery packs
Some great test contact with SOTA activations in other states.

After a great test we walked back to the car and couldn’t help taking this photo as the moon rose in East.

Moody early evening moon rise.

Looking forward to SOTA in VK7 going live!
