VK7/SC-045 Mt Rumney Activation – 1/10/14

After Mt Wellington, Reuben and I drove across to Mt Rumney – it can be accessed either from the Richmond turnoff on the Tasman Highway to the airport or via Mornington.

We drove to the top and parked in the carpark, grabbed the radio pack and squid pole and walked over the back of carpark down the hill and picked up the road at least 25m lower than the summit elevation. The iPhone app called “elevation” came in handy as it displays the GPS elevation info. We walked back up the hill or you could walk around the road – although you need to keep and eye and ear out for cars coming up the road. There are some nasty blind corners!

I operated 2m FM 146.500 and made five contacts with local amateurs to start with.

Operating 2m handheld from the monument.

Then we setup the HF squid pole to a nearby tree and made 10 x 40m HF contacts.

Another successful activation and thanks to all amateurs who contacts me.
